: Chateau La Rivalerie, AOC Premieres Cotes de Blaye, 2001 vintage. The combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot predominantly, helped with a maturation in oak barrels and already 8 years old, this wine has acquired a subtle robustness, still very much focussed on the fruits with delicate oaky notes. Not as bold as 2003, but retaining all the elegance, the soft tannins and the balance wines from that estate have. Very good finish, you will enjoy it on its own or paired with roasted lamb, game, sirloin steak, or an assortment of cheeses.
The Bonaccorsi family bought this vineyard in 1997. Situated by the Garonne River, north of Bordeaux, the vineyard and the buildings necessitated some restoring which the family worked very hard to do and by so re-establish the reputation this chateau had a long time ago. Jerome Bonaccorsi is a young up coming winemaker who certainly starts to make noises in the right quarters!
