Expert reviews

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

We’ve been extremely fortunate to have three of our wines reviewed by some top industry experts. Here’s what they have to say:

Chateau Canevault (France) Fronsac 2005 “On the palate this has really good energy and life about it, with plenty of savoury, mouth-filling fruit that is edged by bittersweet, fine and liquoricy tannins and keen-edged acidity. Long and fresh on the finish, this is really well-made and delicious Bordeaux.” (Review by Tom Cannavan, writer for The Independent, The Sunday Times The Wine Gang, World of Fine Wine, Decanter, The Wine Report and Wine-pages.com)

Our boxed wine best-seller Chateau St Jacques Calon has also been praised: “This Saint Emillion red tastes lightly of blackcurrants with a hint of tobacco. A good wine that will match almost any food.” (Review by Paula Goddard, writer for BBC Good Food, Sky, Mature Times, LivingIt.com)

As one of the UK’s leading wine journalists, Paula was asked to submit three French wines to be featured in the prestigious press-only annual event, Absolutely Cracking French Wines. Paula chose Domaine du Mortier Les Arthuis as one of her choices, and it’s not hard to see why - this organic, intense wine from the Loire Valley is fantastic, a true ‘cracking French wine’.

Finalists in Scottish food and drink awards

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

The stock markets are crashing, the banks are failing and to top it all off, the days are getting shorter and colder. But although we might be in the midst of a credit crunch, don’t let it stop you enjoying life’s simple pleasures such as having a cosy night in with some excellent wine. Not only is it more economical and more enjoyable than drinking poorer-quality (and more expensive) wines in bars and pubs, it’s also the best way to avoid the cold autumn weather!

Provenance Wines: finalists in Scottish food and drink awards

We’re very proud to announce that Provenance Wines reached the regional final of the O2 X Award for Food and Drink, supported by Observer Food Monthly.

Judges were looking for original and visionary businesses associated with the world of food. Hundreds of businesses applied to the awards, and we were delighted to have been chosen as a finalist, as it means we were one of the top four food and drink businesses in Scotland!

What’s the word out there?

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Well we have spent sometime looking at what was being said in the press, various blogs, Reuters, etc…on boxed wine as an “eco-friendlier” alternative going forward. The latest is that we have long way to go although UK sales trends are still on the up. The green bottle recycling issue is not disappearing but growing. Already major supermarket chains are investing in alternatives (boxed wine, Tetrapak, plastic bottles) and like the screw tops are now welcomed by the british drinker so too are the quality bag in boxes becoming more acceptable. Top producers are prepared to “box” their wines as part of their plea to do their bit on the environment front. No one says it is 100% green but it’s a big improvement and every little helps!
